how fast is a bbc?

how fast is a bbc?

im curious what would i run the 1/4mile with a stock 1974 454 w/ oval port heads and turbo 400

You're gonna have to know the gear size and what kind of car did the motor come out of to get some more info on the power.

thats why im asking... i dunno how much the stock engine makes?

its a stock 1987 z28 (my car) w/ a 454.. its stock stuff

I would guess it would only run a mid to hi 14 sec. 1/4 mile with you avg. street gears. By 1974 a stock 454 would be way down on HP due to low compression and small cams put in those for emissions reasons, if the engine was out of a truck it may be a little stronger.

Your bottom end is good up to 800hp no problem. buy a good set of heads cam and intake . A good rear gear and you will runs at least 12s Depends how much money you want to spend

My buddy has a 1974 Truck with a 454 it has like 375 ftlbs of torque but only 200 HP

Yea stock it would be a dog, but put in a nice cam, get new heads or port the hell outta those ones. Then Put in some high compression pistons and you should hav a viable street beast on your hands. As I understand it in alot of those mid 70's GM motors to make them lower power and beat emmisions laws they put huge cc chamber heads on the car and low compression pistons. SO all you have to due is upgrade your cam and compression really to wake it up. Heads are just always a good idea. Plus the obvious intake and carb upgrade.
