Get a glass pack muffler with no bellows, headers, and put an off road pipe w/cut out in place of the cat and she will be plenty loud...and if you want it louder pull off the cap to the cut out...open headers, now thats loud.

I had an '85 TA a few years back that I cut the exhaust off before the rear axle...kind of red neck, but it actully didnt sound all that bad with the cat still on the car.

My Z28 currently has the SLP two on the left with an off road pipe, and stock manifolds and it sounds pretty healthy with the LB9.

Good luck bro,
Erik

I always thought the 40 series was the loudest muffler Flowmaster made! Are you sure the 30 is louder? I'm not doubting you, I just thought the 40 was loudest.

If you want throaty, try getting a new intake. Just a new K&N should make it a little more throaty, but a full new cold air intake will probably give it a good throaty sound. It's that way for most newer trucks anyway.

BTW, I think I have a 40 series muffler, but how do I tell? Does it say it on the muffler?

hm... maybe the 80 IS louder... I wish they had a better system of labeling them, it's all rather confusing, like the numbers don'e mean a thing... idonno.

Friend of mine put a cutout on his 86' Monte SS and has a wide open exhuast pipe coming out under his passenger door, it's MEAN, REAL throaty, and LOUD AS HELL, only thing louder then that is the big blocks running at my local track.

I guess it just matters on if you're concerned with the laws or not. If no, Get Hooker longtubes, y-pipe, !cat, straight 3" pipes out the back. Loud as all hell. If you want to keep it legal, headers, y-pipe, highflow cat to hooker catback. I personally like the sound of the hooker aerochamber mufflers better than flows. Or you can just do what I did, put a 3" cutout right before the rear axle and watch everyone's head turn!

If you want to go redneck loud, go long tubes and purple hornies, or straight pipe back to the axle.

i have 40 series flows on my car. how loud? well when im warming up the car in the garage or on the side of the house.. i rattle the pictures on the walls.. and rattle the huge sliding glass door that leads to the back yard. (talk about parents getting pissed). if u want REALLY LOUD when flooring it.. install some cutouts behind each header!! IMHO its alot better *more fun* to put electric cutouts on, mount a switch on the inside somewhere that opens/closes them, so when someone revs at u at a light, or on the freeway.. u just open the cutouts.. and take it up to 5k

..sidenote.. reg cutout r $20 each... electric cutout are more like $100 each. but i like the idea of flipping a switch vs have to crawl under my car and undo 3 wingnuts to open them.
