How to determine tranny?
If it's auto 3 spd it's 200r4, If its auto 4 spd its a 700r4. Manual 5 spd is t5 and for spd should be borg warner. I believe that is it for stock trannys unless some one change them should be factory numbers on the side you can probably trace.
The 1984 LG4 will either be a 700R4 automatic or T5 standard.

Weekend projects aren't.
The early third gens 82-83 had the TH200 or sometimes called the 200c, 3 speed.
The 200-4R (proper designation) was used in a few G-bodies. Buick Grand Nationals also used them. It has a much better gear ratio than the 700R4.

This chart on transmission pans for identification is not acurate. Take a look at it. The one thats is said to be a THM350 or turbo 350 is a 200c which is the stock tranny in my car. Unless the THM350 and 200c have the same pan, since the 200c is not shown. Does some one have a more acurate site with pictures for this info?

sh*t its hooped
After taking my pan down to the local auto parts store I have found it is a TH200 "VSM" not a THM350. I've been playing with the TV cable and stuff to no avail. I think my tranny is hooped. It takes 5 seconds to kick into drive and it will not launch right away, almost like a clutch that slips. Driving 1 - 2 - D seems to work ok but altamitely it is still slipping and it isn't low on fluid cause i just changed it and put in a new filter. Dang I hate cars.
I think so too
So I ordered a TH350 swap kit and picked up a TH350 today. I got kinda lucky and got a 1800-2200 stall convertor with it for $100.00 . Ill find out tommorrow how that works. Yeah its almost over, as long as this tranny is ok, i'll be smokin the tires by Wednesday. Ohh, and i can smoke the tires, he he.
I need to find out more about rear end swaps now. Any ideas are great. My best friend wants to build a Ford 9" for me and weld it into the factory suspension, with shortened axles so I can tub it and put big fatties on it. I'm also interested in what my options are for bolt in, factory replacements.
