hood pins only?

For reasons that i dont feel like explaining i am considering the idea of removing the stock hood latch and replacing it with hood pins. The only question i have is would i have any problems with the hood staying complelty shut if i was using only hood pins? I dont imagine i would. The only other question is if its legal or not i dont think it is but i also dont think i really care.

I know the manufacturers say not to use pins alone because there's no backup device to keep the hood from flying up and blocking the windshield if they break. However, I've never heard of them breaking so use your own judgment.

Winston Cup cars run 200 mph with just hood pins! They have like 6 though... I think it'd be cool. I like how they look and my hood latch is very tempermental so not a bad idea...

i guess they could break but i dont trust them any less then i do the stock latch its a pos anyways. Yeah i want to get rid of it because i think this winter im going to do some custom fiberglass ram air stuff and i want to get rid of the stupid part of my air box where it becomes super thin but id have to cut away a bunch of metal in the hood (not go through it theres just stuff in the way) where the latch is so i could make a custom fiberglass air box to go with my ram air setup. oh well we will see how it all goes thx for the tips.

I wouldn't do it, but that is my opinion. I have an Unlimited Products fiberglass hood that pins down on my '83 Z28, and a Harwood fiberglass hood on my '90 IROC-Z that latches on. The air comes up under the hood from the headlamp pockets and trys to pull the Unlimited hood off the car, the Harwood stays down pretty well.

On the legality issue, I am pretty sure there is nothing that says you can't disable your hood latch. I have drove plenty of vehicles with out a hood at all, and never had any problems with cops.

opinions great thats what i want. Its not that i have any real desire to remove the stock latch just for the sake of it but its in the way of something that i want to do so im trying to debate wether it will be okay to get rid of it. Makes sense that the wind would try to lift it up from the pockets but that shouldnt be a problem because the pins would be on the corners so itll hold that part down the only question is if id have any problems in the middle but i dont think i will.
