Hood Clearance
Hood Clearance
I am buying an Edelbrock performer intake for my matching carb (edelbrock perf) and my question is simple, as I'm sure atleast one of you have tried this combo.
How much of a hood clearance issue am I gonna have? not like "will it be there" cause it will be
I'm just wondering like how many inches of clearance I would need, I assume nothing over 2 inches is over kill, but still I must ask, will it fit under stock at all, and if not, how much of a cowl or scoop (or even hole in the top of hood) would I need
Cause I'm finishing it all up on the 1st (when the intake is ordered) so I need to just put all the "don't fit" things onto a list so I can try to find away to fix them.

It will clear, Had this combo before I when to a torker 2. No clearance problem at all. I have, I believe a 2 inch or so air ceaner. Just make sure that your air cleaner rod is not to long or you will put a dent in you hood. Good luck
clearance
Yes, when I ran that combo and a proflow tri-angular air cleaner the hood would crunch the top of the air cleaner. It does fit but really tight.
I like it all under the hood so no-one knows what you are runnin.

Smooth
Thank you guys for the help
I would like to remain stock appearance as much as possible, as stock is best for street racing, the cops don't know your kick *** and either do all those damned hondas
another fast question, what kind of gain should I expect with this setup? I dunno what I'm expecting from any of this, I'm mostly just doing all this just to replace all the old tired stuff on the engine.
Thanks again you all

Re: Hood Clearance
i think the year also helps. it seems to me that the older(around 86) camaros have more room.. i know on my 89 just with a pro-flow air cleaner hits the hood... the 86 we have here has an bigger aftermarket carb with spacer and cleaner isnt hitting.. both cars have 305s
i duno if the fiberglass hood on the 86 has anything to do with it..

FWIW - I have a performer with a non-CC q-jet and a 14x3 1.5" offset air cleaner hit when I closed the hood. Ordering a 14x2.5 offset and taking out the center hood bracing to fix the problem
