hood clearance

hood clearance

does anyone know about how much hood clearance a 750 holley carb needs to run the way it should. drag racing of course.

Im only getting bout 3-4 inches right now and want to know if thats enough?

I won't let anything get closer than 1" off the top of the choke tower at bare minumum (i.e. the air cleaner lid) or it can get weird bogs/stumbles that simply can't be tuned out of it. The air needs room to strighten out before it goes down the venturis, regardless of how well the air cleaner assembly may flow otherwise. 2"+ preferred for maximum performance/airflow.
