The HSR setup is available for either standard SBC cylinder heads or Vortec cylinder heads. If your motor is bone stock, it'll have the standard style cast iron L98 heads.

Corvette L98 heads are the same thing as the Camaro L98 heads except they're aluminum. Vortec was introduced on the truck engines in 1996. Those are good engines IMO. I had a 96 Sierra and that truck was a beast. I modded it pretty easily and had it running 0-60 in 6 seconds, maybe a hair less. There is an excellent writeup on NastyZ28. That's actually the site I spend the most time on as I know many of those guys personally, something that I really haven't gotten over here. But back on subject here is the thread on Vortec heads and why a lot of 2nd gen guys put them on their cars.

Everything you ever needed to know about Vortec heads

If your on a budget using the aluminum L98 heads is not a bad way to go. They are capable of producing 400+ engine HP with the intake, headers and a cam.
I did this some time ago on my 87 Vette. I used the Edlebrock Super Ram manifold and the Chevy LT4 Hot Cam. Got 391hp without headers.
