Highest lift with stock L98 springs?

Highest lift with stock L98 springs?

What are the limits of the L98 083 heads valve springs? will they be ok at .480?

The springs are not the limiting factor, really. It's the clearance between the valve guide boss and the bottom of the retainer. Usually, .480" is the absolute uppermost on factory springs. And, at that, i have seen it a few times where .480" is too much.

So what must be done to run a larger lift cam? Machine shop? Most importantly...how much does it usually cost because my local machine shop believes in price guaging

So does the machine shop by me. I called to ask them how much they'd want to machine my heads for larger springs, and about .550" lift.

700 dolla!......right....thats how much they want for a pocket port too...700 dolla...

Okay......stupid asses. I'll probably NEVER go there ever. Stupid idiots charge insane prices for the most basic of things...

I think your bigger problem would be the age of the springs. If they have more than 50,000 miles on them, forget about reusing them. Get a new set of springs when you swap in your cam.
