Helping my friend swap a lt1 in his 91 z28

Does anyone have a picture of the frame where you have to bend it for the ac to work?
Also does anyone have the wiring diagrams for the pnp wiring and anyother wiring that has to be done?

What you need to do is put the motor in and then put the accessory bracket on and then the compressor. A picture will not give you the true placement of the "modification." I used a regular hammer and a torch to dimple my crossmemer. Also, the motor mount will have to flattened on the side facing the compressor. The best way to do this is to get the ac off the bracket and heat up the mount and hit it with the hammer unitl it is flat. Then make sure the compressor clears it. Remember, work slow. You should not have to touch the nuetral safety switch for the motor to run. Keep the engine harness separate from the body harness and only tap into the bat and ign leads, and the aldl. I did a total buildup and took the entire harness out of the car and did the wiring on a bench so it was alot easier to do. You don't have to get that deep. Just identify the circuits you need and work one wire at a time.

ok i just rember reading that the pnp wire had to be spliced or something. hes swapping for the 4l60e too. Ok where did you mount the computer? and is the aldl cable the same as of a 4th gen with obd1? I just havent looked at it yet. and are the wires for the aldl the same color on the 91 aldl as on the 94 ecm?

I didn't use the 4l60E in my swap so you are going to need the wiring diagram to figure out what the computer needs to see. As far as the ALDL, the 95 used the obdII style and the 94 still has the OBD1. I used a regular OBD1 that was already in the car (86). You can use the same one in the car already. The colors are the same but I can't remember what pinout to look for on the LT1 computer. I mounted the computer between the brake booster and the fender/hood hinge. I fabbed up some quick brackets and painted them black. This location kept the harness length the same and I just had to rework the power and ground inputs a little. Also, make sure you run the SES and ALDL wires straight from the computer to the light and the connector. Anything other than a straight shot will give you problems with communicating with the computer.

I have an 86 and a 95 diagram. Most of the circuits should be the same. What are you looking for?

I can't promise you the pin locations are going to match between teh 86 and 91 dash harness. I am going to bet they won't. I will pm you with some schematics and you can tell me if they helped.

Re: Helping my friend swap a lt1 in his 91 z28

The vats on the LT1 computer needs to be programmed out and you can ignore the wiring on the chassis. You also need to think about how you want to handle the fuel pump and fan relays. If you want to keep them then let me know, otherwise, you can get new relays and pigtails and wire them directly for a clean look. Keep in mind, the wiring and relays are about 15 years old so they are probably showing their age. The ALDL needs to go directly from the LT1 computer to the plug. Don't splice anything in that circuit.

yes we plan on putting a walboro 255 in and using lt1 relays. and the fans are going to be wired on a switch as is his electric water pump for easy cool down at the track
