Re: Help with a tune up

Basic tune up includes the cap, rotor, plugs, wires, oxygen sensor, pcv, and air filter, and fuel filter. Oil change is also a good idea.

Tranny fluid is a debatable subject. If your tranny is good it will benifit from a change and if it is on its way out (even if you cannot tell from normal driving) it can finish it off.

Re: Help with a tune up

If you don't know much about tranny fluid, the color of it is the best way to tell what condition your tranny is in (as long as you have an automatic).

If the tranny is in good condition, the fluid should be a nice pink-red color.

If the fluid looks like it's a very dark red or brown, they your fluid is dirty and/or burnt. Nine times out of ten this means that your tranny is on it's way out, and you should only add fluid to it as necessary to retain the proper level. If the fluid is burnt, replacing it can cause your transmission to slip even more, leading to an earlier failure.
