Help Needed

Hey guys I need your help. I have an 86 Iroc with a 305 TPI motor. I just finished a head swap and my problem is my fan does not turn on at all. The temp climbs up to 240 and higher on the gauge. I think the gauge is somewhat accurate because I have a 180 degree thermostat. Once the temp gets around 190 on the gauge, I can see coolant starting to flow in the radiator with the cap off. I don't know what the problem is.The fan does turn on when I turn the AC on. I have checked all the fuses and they were all good. Things I have replaced are the coolant temp sensor and the coolant temp sensor pigtail. Any ideas here? I really need to get my car running again.

I don't have a fan clutch its electric, and the fan works since it comes on when I have the AC on.

All electric fans have a fan swith. I have an 89 firebird with a tbi 305 and a 1991 camaro with a tpi 350 and I have replaced both of them. It should be on the passenger side of the motor near the knock sensor. I just looked at my chiltons manual and it shows a fan switch for an 86 camaro with a tpi305 vin f. Hope this helps.

Im pretty sure my car doesnt have it. Ive been told the 86 is controlled by the ECM via the CTS in the intake manifold. And I dont remember unplugging it when I removed my old heads.

okay people

The fan switch is in between the 6 and 8 spark plug. You need to have one to turn on the fan.

be sure ya dont get your fan switch plug and your knock sensor plug mixed up. they have identical plugs and the only way to tell what is wat is by the color of the wire.
i mixed mine up once and count figure out why i wasnt reading knock and at the same time my fan wouldnt come on. also another ques is, do you have dual fans or 1 fan? also is your air dam on the car? thats a major part of cooling for our cars.
i also sugguest you buy a HELM book not a HAYES from AZ. the HELM book is about 2 in thick and covres YOUR YEAR ONLY where the hayes book covers a general range of years and is missing alot of info you might need for your year. they can be had off ebay. this book will pay for itself after 1 use pretty much.

Ive looked and been told my year fbody didn't have one. Its controlled by the ECM via the CTS in the intake manifold.

I just got back from the shop and my gauge was reading 255-260 and the scan tool was showing 227 and my fan was on, and it turned off at 213. So my gauge is off by allot, or its my temp switch in the head.

The original programming for my 92 350 TPI was for the fan to come on at 246° and shut off at 223°. So yeah, the do run rather on the hot side.
