Help a n00b out with buying a camaro

Hey my uncle is about to buy an 88' 305 camaro t top... for $1500. What you guys need to help me with is what are some danger spots on this car. I will definitely be checkin out the T-top, cuz I don't need water dripping in my car, but what other areas should I inspect more carefully.

Second Part, I don't know much about camaros, so i've been trying to do some research, but haven't been comin up with much. First off, my uncle will not want to be going all the way with this car, he just wants a nice cruiser with some kick. I/H/E will pretty much be a given, but what else is possible to beef it up some more, with out spendin too much. how much too move up to a 350? Examples of spending too much: Turbos, Supers, or 2g's worth of headwork...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

first stop for you should definately be www.thirdgen.org. do a search because chances are every one of your questions has been answered. as far as the t-tops go, most all t-tops from the 3rd gens leak but as mentioned ealier the search on TGO should reveal ways to stop this.

swapping in a 350 wil be very easy. being as tho you said nothing about this being a z28 or IROC i am willing to bet the farm taht the car is a TBI car. if its TBI (will look just like a carb) the swap will be very easy.

a good setup would be a 350 with ported and polished vortec heads,~ 700, comp cams custom grind cam ~ no more than 600 for complete kit, an Eldlebrock RPM single plane intake, and a 750 holley carb~350-600(never priced a carb) will put you in the 12 second range after a little tuning. and the whole engine if you score a basic 350 block from a junkyard for less than 300 will end up costing maybe 2k TOTAL in the car and running.

after that a nice TH350 trans and 3.73 gears, a set of SFC's, and various other suspension mods will make a fun street car that will be quite the vette killer....
