Help my friend choose...

Fast Burn Heads?
Vortech Heads?

He has a mild cammed 305TBI with suspension work.

He is going to be putting long tube headers with a 3000 stall.

But right now he has a stock stall. Anyway

Which would be a better choice?

Also, if we add Long Tube Headers, and the 3000 stall, what do you think a mild cammed 305TBI would run?

Definetly go with vortechs over fastburns....if he's got some cash he should look into something like the E-tec 170s (under $1200 complete pair).

Out of those 2 choices, I would go with the vortecs. I do remember seeing a Vortec conversion kit for TBI trucks awhile back in a Jegs or Summit I think, that might be his best bet if he can find the kit.

Re: Help my friend choose...

i say vortecs as well, especially if its going to be more of a street car. buy them already hopped up w/ screw in rocker studs and upgraded springs.

you will have to get a Vortec specific intake manifold as well.

P.S. DO NOT try to put a stock set of heads on a cammed car. you said mild cam,im not sure what your definition of mild is,but almost any cam a little larger than stock will rip the press in studs right out and then its game over.

Re: Help my friend choose...

Fastburn heads are too big for a TBI, especially a 305. With the stock Vortec heads, you'll lose compression as the stock 305 heads are 58cc's combustion chamber and the Vortec are 64cc's.

Re: Help my friend choose...

I'll add another vote for the Vortec heads just because of the price/performance ratio...

Heh - you laugh, but that's why I haven't ordered my AFRs yet... I'm thinking about selling my HSR & just going with an LS1/T-56 combo...

honestly as cheap as they are becoming it makes more sense. the only way i'd consider it again is if i were to use a carb.
