Thumbs up

well I like mine.

should bolt right in. nothing to do. I originally installed the truck pitman arm w/it, but thats too long and too many turns lock to lock. so I installed the orig. camaro pitman arm. still needs to be turned alot compared to the iroc box, but that doesnt matter to me. I like going straight.

HOW MANY TURNS FROM LOCK TO LOCK??

MINE NOW IS ONLY 2 3/4...VERY RESPONSIVE

ALSO, I RUN SKINNY'S UP FRONT...BUT OCCASIONALLY RUN THE 16X8 IROCS FOR LONG TRIPS....

HOW HARD IS IT TO STEER...I HEAR ITS A BREEZE???

Unbolt the power steering box and everything related to it and throw it away. Bolt the manual box on. You should use the f-body pitman arm though.

Metric tools will be needed as well as a pitman arm puller. It's been a while since I installed mine. I think the 3 bolts that hold the steering box onto the frame are 18mm. The bolt that holds the bottom of the steering shaft to the input shaft is 10mm.

I never counted lock to lock. I don't like turning that sharp anyway. The spool in the diff makes it hard on tires.

Driving down the road isn't bad. You won't like the wide front tires when trying to park in a parking lot.

SO...WITH SKINNYS ON THE FRONT...HOW DOES IT COMPARE WITH POWER AND W/O POWER STEERING?

IS IT HADRER TO TURN??

I KNOW I BYPASSED MY PUMP ONE TIME AT THE TRACK AND IT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE WHEEL...

IS THE MANUAL BOX GOING TO BE LIKE THIS?

not gonna be the same as bypassing the pump, if you just took the belt off, or linked the hoses, you still had all the hydrualic fluid to work against, with a manual box you won't have that,

i drove an s-10, its alot of turns lock to lock, and the steering really wasn't that heavy with 215/70/15 that it had on it, but remember that truck had a 4cylinder in it, and the truck in general is lighter than nour cars, so front axle weight is considerably less

currently in pieces, for manual swap

You're not going to be able to sit still and spin the wheel around with one finger. It will require a bit of hand over hand action at very low speeds.

I have no problems driving around the pits. Even turning to pull into my pit spot isn't that bad. I have more trouble with the transbrake button installed in the steering wheel getting in the way.

Don't get a steering wheel that's smaller than stock. Manual steering vehicles usually have a larger steering wheel to give extra leverage while turning the sheel.

My race car has a smaller wheel but there are very few corners I have to worry about.

The only way you can bypass the pump with power steering is to loop the inlet and return lines together. Even then it's not the same as a manual box.

I installed a manual box about 3 years ago and IIRC, it's ~ 4turns lock to lock. It's much better than a power box looped off, but like Stephen said, it's not finger steering either. The only time it needs some muscle is at parking lot speeds and even then it's not too bad.

I used the Camaro pitman arm. I also had to hammer the frame rail a little to get the box to mount flush.

Question

Is there a specific year that the manual box is coming from? This sounds like a nice way to get a couple of easy hp.
