Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a 89 Iroc-z 350 TPI ..... My problem is no fuel.... It will start on starting fluid and then cut off... I checked the fuel pump fuse and it's good. So that leaves the relay or the pump it's self... Does anyone know witch relay is the feul pump one and if so how may I test it? Thanks for any help you may give me... Charles

Re: Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can't tell you where the relay is, but can tell you swapping the relay with another one (I think you can use fan relay) is a zero dollar troubleshooting technique that will let you know if relay is good or not.
If I remember the wiring diagram right (I don't have my 89 Formula anymore, or the Haynes manual that went with it), there is a fuse (or fusible link) that feeds the injectors. The ecm provides ground to activate the left or right bank. But it needs a signal from the distributor module. If you look at the base of the distributor, you will see 2 connectors, one goes to coil, other to ecm.

both fan relays and the maf relays are the same, but fuel pump is different
Re: Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No I don't hear the Fuel pump and the fuse and relay is good, I used a relay off of my other camaro and still nothing.. So that only leaves the pump.... Dang I hate that but I'm changing the rear end anyway, so it will already be out of the way .. Thanks Guys!!!! Charles
Re: Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It may sound funny, but are you sure you have fuel in the tank. I sure I'm not the first one to let that slip by. I remember one time I was installing an engine in my IROC and had dumped the old fuel out and put a couple of gallons of fresh in the tank. In my trials of trying to get the thing running the way I wanted it, I used of the gas. I never thought of it. I spent hours thinking had another problem, until one of my buddies jokingly said "you gas in it!" I took hell for that one for quite some time.
Re: Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Besides you don't need to pull the rear to get out the gas tank. I did it no problems. Especially if you Jack it up on the frame and let the differential hang down you will get even more clearance.
Re: Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On all the camaros I had fuel pump problems with, I put an access panel throught the floor board. I would cut a square hole in the middle, on the front of the gas tank hump, from inside the car. Then I would cut down the front of the hump about 10 inches, to allow access to the fuel lines. This allows me to change pumps without to much trouble.
To cover it up, I put a piece of sheetmetal over the hole, sheetmetal screw it down with some permatex to seal it up. Then you put the carpet back in place and you never know it is there. Newer cars have this access panel. I never understood why they didn't do it to the camaro.
