Help!

The exhaust pipe broke right behind the cat. Before the pipe broke we heard a sound coming from the general area of the catmaybe the back 2 cylinders. Its a sort of ch!nk ch!nk ch!nk sound. it doest seem like anything in the valve train broke the car still runs fine considering its age and milage.

ANY suggestions as to what can cause this noise will be greatly appreciated

Thank you in advance

-Dave

that might have been the exhaust rattling/vibrating right up through the Y-pipe when your exhaust was in the process of giving way. Just before it broke, it might have shook a bit and rattled your whole exhaust system right up to the manifold - giving you the impression that the noise was coming from the two rear cylinders - this is just speculation though.

I'd get under there and take a look, sounds like something is hanging loose and clinging and clanging against the underside of the car.

Sounds like a bad exhaust pipe...when I dropped my Y-pipe I found it was split along the top...my car had started to get louder and louder and a metal clank was audible when I went over a bump...
