heating up?

heating up?

i have an 88 iroc, and ive got a new rad and a fairly new thermostat, and its fine when im driving, but when i sit or am in heavy traffic it heats up really bad to just below the red line, why is it doing this? what can i do to stop this?

the thermostat may be stuck. buy a new one and see if it still does it. i think there is also a certain way the thermostat needs to be put in...

Have you checked that your fans are coming on? You may need to wire a switch to turn on the fans manuly. Good Luck

thanks, the thermostat is only about 7 months old so it shouldnt be that but i will definitly look into my fans and getting a manual switch for them

Pressure wash the condenser to get rid of debris between the condenser and the radiator. Make sure the fins are not bent.
