Headlights acting up.... Please help

I was driving home last night from work when I noticed that it seemed dark in front of me. My normal headlights weren't on. I tried turning them on and off but nothing happened so then I hit my high beams to see if that worked and it did. I got home and checked it out and unless I have the high beam switch on my headlights won't come on. Any idea what it could be???

The funny thing is they work when I flip the high beams on so they are getting power that way. I will check when the high beam switch is off.

Hmm...No. Your camaro has one filament in each bulb. Sorry, I was thinking my firebird. But still, it is possible that both blew at once....

Two bulbs out..sounds like a loose connection. I'm not sure if the car's lights are hooked up in series or parallel though. High beams and low beams run seperate wires and two low beam bulbs out = loose connection/high resistance somewhere between the switch and the bulbs probably.

What I did for now is unplug the high beams and just leave the high beam switch on all the time. My low beams stay on and work fine but if I turn off the high beam switch they turn off. What gives???

Sounds like you have some wires connected in the wrong places maybe, also you might not be getting enough voltage to share..that was a quick theory I'll think about it more and post later I got a lot of hw

YES, the low-beam (outer) headlights have 2 filaments in them. One for low beams and one for high beams. The high-beam (inner) headlights only have one.

Low beams it turns on only the low beam filaments in the outer headlights.

High beams it turns on the high beam filaments in the outer headlights AND the (only) filaments in the inner high beam headlights.

You could very well have 2 burned out headlights.

Damn, that sucks. Thats weird that they both went at the same time. These didn't even last that long, they are silverstars. I guess its time for some new headlights.

This info is correct so basicly you are driving with high beams on all the time. you could have a bad switch at either the dash or the dimmer switch also, check and clean the plugs at the lamps as well.

Well the parking lights and everything come on, so I assume the dimmer switch is fine. I'll check it out though.

It turns the high beam icon on in the dash and turns it off. It also turns on the high beams. When it is off the low beams just don't come on.
