Header options

I have an L98 with dual cats. What kind of options do I have for headers that will work with my system without having an entirely new intermediate pipe built?

Re: Header options

I recomend using a header/y pipe combintion set up for single cat, along with a cat back set up for the single cat. This is what I did to my factory equiped dual cat car. I recomend the hooker header and y pipe (#2055 I think). Once I installed the parts, I made some measurments, and Mieneki made me a pipe to take the place of the cat, I think it was less than $20. Then when emsions time came around I had a single Magnaflow 3" cat installed.

Re: Header options

Why take 8 cylinders feeding two cats and force them all into one cat? Sounds restrictive to me. Keep your dual cats.

Do a search on this forum and the exhaust forum at www.thirdgen.org and you'll find almost everyone recommends either the SLP's or the Hooker 2055's.

Re: Header options

i found the dual cats to just be an awkward way to run the pipes, and the factory pipes are small. If you re-do the whole exhaust at some point a mandrel bent 3" y pipe into a single cat is more then enough flow.

But you just wanted headers, the SLP 1 3/4 headers are quite nice, way too expensive tho, think you would just need and exhaust shop to come up with some custom downpipes which shouldnt be an issue.

Hooker shorties are probably the best bet for you, and i would get the ones that have a 3" collector on them.

Hooker "super competition" long tubes or w/e they call em, are a very very good header but they take a little bit of working to get to sit right and hang very low.

Re: Header options

i would recommend hooker 2055 headers and switching to a single cat u will love the sound. i had them on my iroc and sounded very healthy. good luck with your search.

Re: Header options

If I choose to go short tube, the hooker 2055s will almost certainly be my choice. I'm considering going with the hooker super competitions and building the rest of the exhaust myself though. We'll see how it works out. I have the money for both, but I'll save enough with the shorties to get started on the intake sooner.
