Head and Cam Combo???

With my current mods what would be a good head and cam combo? I currently have a ported plenum &SLP runners waiting to be installed. I know it's justa 305 but I want to run it until it shuts down, it still runs very strong. Any suggetions would be greatly appreciated!

I am not speaking from experience, but I have been researching the same thing for my 92 Z28. I have the SLP runners installed and have ported my plenum also. I hear good things about the Vortec GM heads, they are probably the best flowing heads for the cost. I am leaning towards a set from Air Flow Research, they are not cheap, but all the tests I have read about, they will give a substantial power gain. The cam I am thinking about will be either ZZ9 from TPIS, or GM's Hot Cam. Also a good set of headers will complement everything. I am looking to run in the 12's on street tires, and take care of late model Cobras. I hope this helps you in some way. I guess it boils down to what you want the car to do and how much your willing to spend. Good luck!

pro-toplines have good flow numbers, and are a much less money that AFRs (dont' get me wrong AFR makes a GREAT product) but a set of pros in the 180cc or 200cc size would be a great fit.

as for the cam, personaly on a 305 i don't think i would go much above the 214* range on the intake side and probably not about 220* on the exaust. and for tuning i would keep the LSA at 112 or higher.

Grab a set of 081 heads from the junk yard, they are very inexpensive. Maybe $40 or so. Then port and polish them according to the instructions at the end of my sig. Least expensive but most powerful heads for the money anywhere!

A lot of folks like the LT1 cam for 305 roller blocks.

which of the 3 would be best

Comp Cams 266 Hydraulic Roller Camshaft, 210 / 220, .500 / .510 114 LSA, For factory roller cam engines with modified TPI and computer.

Comp Cams 264 Hydraulic Roller Camshaft, 210 / 220, .480 / .480 112 LSA, For factory roller cam engines with Tuned Port Injection and modified computer.

Comp Cams 262 Hydraulic Roller Camshaft, 206 / 210, .450 / .480 112 LSA, For factory roller cam engines with stock Tuned Port Injection and stock computer.

With my current mods and a ported plenum w/ SLP runners, and as far as heads, what about
Vortecs. Will the 64cc hurt my performance?

you can have vortecs milled down to 58cc, but yes at 64cc the loss of compresion would hurt performance. you are also going to need a vortec intake base, so figure that in to the price. of everything

also not, that those are all fairly healthy cams for a 305, so computer work is def. going to be needed, esecialy since your car is a 90, so it is MAP system. so keep that in mind when picking out the cam.
