guage pod in place of ash trey?
guage pod in place of ash trey?
i was wondering if any1 has heard of a place/someone that sell this. i want 2 guages (oil press. and water temp) instead of an ash trey. i like going for the more sleeper look (my car appearance now is stock, aside from being lowered). my monster tach is mounted under the center vents,so thats off limits now.
a while back,i saw some1 put 3 digital guages in place of the ash trey and had it all molded in flat and everything,w/ a clear piece of thin lexan or somethin like that over them, but thats a little more than i want.
i know most people dont think "uh oh,hes got guages...must be a fast car"..especially since ricers in slammed honda's w/ a fart pipe throw 2-3 guages in the A-piller and prob. 99% of the time the car will wont run faster than 15's
eventually i want to put mechanical guages in so i know they are right and dont have to rely on the 16 year old electrical 3rd gen guages.
any info is appreciated,thanks

if u can get some plexi glass and have use of a bandsaw or jigsaw, then it should be fairly easy to make, all you need to to is take the plexi, hold it to the ash trey hole, trace, cut, and pop the guages in and hold em down somehow....not that hard, just give it a shot and see how it turns out

Some analog gauges cost more than digital, just depending on the type of gauge.
If you want to mount two gauges in the ashtray location, you'll have to decide if you want them mounted on the surface or if you want to replace the ashtray lid with clear plexi or acrylic and mount the gauges just below it. It's not difficult to make a gauge "holder" that is completely below the surface of the clear plexi. Mounting them on the surface would require more work if you want it to look "clean" but the choice is yours.
BTW, I have three digital gauges under smoked plexi. All three are air temperature gauges used in different locations on my supercharger ducting. They cost me about $40 each.

I have a feeling that you are want something that resembles the gauge pod on a first gen Camaro consoul. If so then Auto Meter ( I think)makes a few differant kind for the ricemobiles that you may be able to modife to fit. Or you may want to try someone like the Paddock,or Year One and buy a repo and try to fit it,but that would be some bucks. If you mount them flat you may not be able to see them very well, but you could use the beveled bezels (again ? Auto Meter) to put an angle to them. Or you could do like "robvas" suggested and make your own.
