guage cluster help after motor swap
guage cluster help after motor swap
alright, i did a motor swap on my 91 z28. and when i started it up, none of the guages work. is there a power wire that feeds the cluster?? or how does it work. does it have a seperate ground etc?? and what color is the power wire for the cluster if there is one.
well, if anyone has had this prob, let me know how you fixed it. thanks.

Did you put the sending units to the gauges in,like for oil and water temp?
Does anything happen at all, like just when turning the key to the "ON" position?
Sounds like you unplugged the computer or something. What did you do about fuel delivery? What kinda pump, etc etc.

yea, did u put the coolant temp sensor in from the old block, the oil pressure sensor, are you using the stock ignition system?
those cover your coolant temp gauge, oil pressure gauge and tachometer, your speedo is covered by your tranny, your volt meter is run off the same 12v source as your fuel pump, and your fuel gauge is controlled by the sending unit in the tank

well, i have guage pillars for the water temp, and oil press. the speedo, and tach are the ones that are not working, i am still using the same keyed ignition, and as for fuel, i took the in tank fuel pump out, and used a hose with a filter connected to it. i am running a electric fuel pump up top., the sensors are all plugged in.
could there be something i might have cut that i shouldn't have, i cut injector harness, oil press, water temp, the ground that goes to the block etc. could the 3 wire ground be the prob? it hooks to the back of the block.
and the volt meter is the only guage that works.

Ground could be it,yes! Get those ground wires grounded...theres a reason for grounds, trust me.
As for the tach,it was the WHITE wire that went to the coil on your old motor,so if you can manage to find where that wire is cut,put a male spade connector on it and plug it right into the distributor cap...ONLY if you changed over to HEI ignition, which you should have done.
Im not sure why your speedo doesnt work, its electric so im guessing one of the wires for it is cut or a ground id cut affecting that and causing it not to work.
