I have the stock exhaust manifolds, do you think shorty headers will do anything for it?

You'll see some small gains by adding shorties. I would probably go with long tube if possible though.

I would love long tubes but there just isn't any room, the half shafts run pretty much directly in the line of the exhaust pipe at the collector as it stands.

The stock manifolds are crap, get shorties, even they will open up your potential alot. I also strongly suggest that you get an aftermarket Y-Pipe in place of yours. I have been preaching this for years, since I have done my headers. When I pulled out the Y-pipe, I was shocked to find out that the joint where the 'Y' meets, was considerably restrictive. Similar to this picture here.

A system is only as strong as it's weakest link, without getting this addressed, your headers will not get you much of a gain.

Heddman and Flowtec sell a Y-pipe that bolts in place of the stock one, and is fairly cheap. I recommend the Flowtec one as it is the one I ended up picking up and am happy with it. No restrictions whatsoever.

This is basicly what the setup is except my pipes go over the half shafts.

Wow, that is unheard of! Considering that's a Mustang dyno, you're on par with an early LT1!

And yes, shorty headers will definately help to the tune of at least another 15-20HP - the stock manifolds are extremely restrictive. Whatever you do, stay away from the Edelbrock stuff. I would go with the Hooker 2055s if they fit.

Those collectors look REALLY small. If they're anything smaller than 2.5" look elsewhere!

Where did you get the adapter plate for the transmission and how much was it?
