Question GM 350 HO Crate....Which cam to use????

Alright...The engine has arrived with both cams(the one I ordered and the one that comes in the motor).....Which one to use??? I have been having second thoughts on the cam I have ordered...Which is as follows: .444 / .444 I/E 212 / 212 dur @ 50

The cam in the engine is as follows: .435 / .460 I/E 212 / 222(I think) dur.

The guy at Scoggin Dickey said "You cannot use fuel injection with the cam that comes in the engine"...IS THIS TRUE????? I cannot see where it would matter if I was carbed or EFI. He said the car would not even run with the EFI set up and the Crate cam...Please someon shed some light on this query I have....I do not have much time left to decide!!!!

Thanks Again

hmm, those cams look similiar. Maybe they where concerned about vacuum. Are the lobe seperation angles the same. If the one you bought has a larger angle like say 112 to 114 and the one in the motor has 110 or less it would probably produce less vacuum at idle especially with the larger exhaust duration.

I talked to a guy at SDP and he says as long as the LS is 112 or more, I can use the cam that came with it.........I guess I am going to use the 350 HO cam and get my money back for the other (half of my new chip I gotta buy ) by the way.....Point me in the direction of a known chip burner...I called fastchips, but the 350 bones kinda had me floored!!!

In case you haven't tried this site yet, these guys are really into chip burning. http://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/. They also have tech articles on it.

That stock cam isn't very big anyway, I don't know why the heck he was telling you that stuff. Especially since you're going the custom chip route, people run cams way bigger than that with TPI setups all the time... I certainly see no way you wouldn't lose power going to that other single pattern cam.
