Getting rid of PCV?

Here's the deal, I have my oil "cap" on my drivers side valve cover and the PCV valve going from the Carburetor to the valve cover on the passenger side. I'd like to replace the PCV with just a crank case breather. Inorder to do that I just put the right size breather in where the PCV was and then just block off the part of the carb that went to the PCV right?

Also, how exactly would I blcok off the hole where the PCV was on the carb?

Sounds about right! Plugging the carb nipple would be best with a plastic or rubber cap.

Okay thanks. Does this sound right to anyone else? it seems like there's usually only one valve cover with a hole for the oil/breather and the other one is just flat. Is this true?

Re: Getting rid of PCV?

Also, what's the benefit of going form a PCV valve to a breather? Can someone post a link to a good breather? Thanks.

Re: Getting rid of PCV?

There is no benefit. PCV valves are good things. Racers use vacuum pumps to keep crankcase pressure negative. Helps seal the rings.

Re: Getting rid of PCV?

Just to let you know the PCV is a VERY good thing on your engine it flows fresh air though your engine to evaporat all the moisture inside your crankcase, if you take the PCV off acid will start forming in your engine and slowly kill it, now I just wanted you to know this b4 you ripped your PCV off and just to let you know even though I know this My 305 doesn`t have the PCV hooked up either, because I just don`t care that much, maybe some day I`ll hook it back up

Re: Getting rid of PCV?

shorterm, throwing a breather on there is great...looks clean, does its job, and saves you the hassle

longterm, pcv valve delete isn't such a good idea, trust me, i've been through this...i even bought all new valve covers, and breathers and ended up hooking up the PCV system after all...what happens over time is, oil builds up in those breathers, then it pukes it all over your valve covers, and just creates a mess....i'm sure everybody on here has there own opinions and preferences on breathers or pcv systems, but i went the extra mile to rehooked mine all up after i put the new stealth ram on...and i feel it was a good decision...

Re: Getting rid of PCV?

The main reason I was gonna get rid of the PCV was to replace it wiht a breather to get a cleaner look and I thought they both did the same job. I guess it's not though, so I'll keep it on afterall.

Re: Getting rid of PCV?

do what i did, get all new fittings, new PCV valve, and new hose, then everything is brand new, and it still looks clean....if you are going for show car finish, get some SS braided hose...also, another reason to keep PCV is, you ever hop in an old car? smell the seats, or just take a ride in it and smell your clothes when you get out...what do you smell like? gas/oil...its pretty disgusting...keeping the PCV system will keep you and your interior smelling a whole bunch better!!!

Re: Getting rid of PCV?

It gets rid of crank case pressure, during the combustion process in the 4 stroke cycle there is some leak down and that goes inside the crank case. It can cause oil leaks to start happening since theres so much more pressure in there now and more pressure on the rings. Thing with having one is you dont get an as clean air/fuel mixture since you are also taking in some of that dirty pressure stuff and sucking it back down the intake. So a positive and negative to everything. Up to you what you do. I personally do not use it.
