will my friends 3.23 stock gear out of his 1999 z28 fit in my 85 z28 305 tpi

what is currently in your car?

They will interchange if they are the same series gears. 2 or 3.

Id go 3.42 or if I was you.

what ever the stock gear is, what do you mean by the same series?
and he just told me that its it a 3.42.

If you have to ask that type of question, my advice is to FORGET about a gear change. First do a little research on the subject then ask questions.
