Re: gear drives

I've heard they can cause the knock sensor to pull timing

Re: gear drives

I dont know, I've heard that on a scale of 1-10, 10 being loudest, most of these are like a 6-8. Some guys over at TGO said it was comparable to a blower whine. Sounds badass but for daily driving, it would probably lose its novelty pretty quickly. However it depends on what kind of driving you do. I for one, am a pretty agressive driver, and I think I would like something like that, but if you are driving this car to school/work everyday, it might get annoying.

We need someone to get a video clip so we can sticky it or something. I see this question alot.

Re: gear drives

^Yep I have heard it's comparable to a blower whine as well. Thats the ONLY reason I didn't use a Jackson gear-drive when I rebuilt my motor; i didn't want people thinking I had a blower on my 305. I went w/ a Cloyes Double-chain HD set and I love it thus-far.

I'm really curious as hell to hear what that sounds like. Any chance that you could get a video up for us?

Re: gear drives

I love the way gear drives sounds. I heard a few cars with them mostly old school Novas and Chevelles. But they sound awesome driving down the road something kinda like a S/C

Re: gear drives

stay away, especially with a knock sensor, besides you get a good roller chain theres no need for a gear drive.

Re: gear drives

They are cool for a week or two. Then they just get annoying, and a double roller timing chain is sufficient.

I only have a double-chain timing set not a gear-drive.. you really dont hear a single thing from the timing assembly. I mean.. if you still want the video I can try to work something out, it's up to you..

We used to have tons of em on old school muscle back in the 80's. Sounds wicked loud (Pete Jackson Gear Drives) and very much like a big ole blower.

a knock sensor is pretty much a microphone, listening for knock, a gear drive makes the PCM/ECM think there is always knock, so, it pulls timing constantly
