forged internals
nothing special in the third-gen shortblock. However, that said, the OEM parts are not bad. The rods are essentially the same as a "pink" rod except they aren't run through 100% magnaflux & x-ray like the pinks. The cast crank is plenty strong for 450+ horsepower. Pistons will hold up to most everything you can dish out, save obscene amounts of nitrous, or turbo boost.
Your stock shortblock as is will support 425 horsepower as long as you keep the revs below 6000 RPM. That's prime TPI territory.
Forged parts are for when you want to rev the thing, or else go forced air or nitrous injection.
I've put forged internals into my stroker project only because I'll eventually be revving to 6800 RPM and spraying with a 150 shot.

The only stock forged parts were the connecting rods as far as I know. Cranks and pistons were casted.
