First Time RS Owner Here.
Hey everyone.
Tomorrow i will be the proud owner of a cherry 92 RS.
The car is a 92 RS, w/305, auto and pretty much stock with the exception of the ignition, shocks, and trans cooler.
This is my first bowtie and was wondering what performance mods i should consider?
This car is going to be a daily driver with an occasional trip to the drag strip.
Some of the mods i am considering are:
B&M Shift Kit
Exhaust
Jet Performance Chip
What do all you Chevy guru's suggest?
Chris

hey, welcome
sounds like a great ride
first mods are usually intake and exhaust
then you could throw in a shift kit if you want
search the boards, there is more than enough threads discussing first mods or free mods
o, and i love the look of the 91-92 rs's
one of the best looking third gens i think (of course, i am biased
)

forgot one thing
i would reccomend the transgo kit over the b&m
i've done some searching on this and heard a lot of stuff and my *personal opinion* is that transgo is better
just because it changes the actual valvebody components instead of just increasing line pressure (which is bad for trannies) like b&m does
both offer firm hard shifts (i know for a fact transgo has washers that control how firm, and if you go to pro-built transmissions (?) then they can get you an intermediate valve to have nice part-throttle shifts, but then have normal transgo shifts (firm) when at WOT) but b&m will decrease your tranny life, whereas transgo supposedly helps it (less friction, longer life)
remember, this is my own opinion and take it as you will
if you want more info, i suggest searching (yes, i am a big fan of searching
) the drivetrain boards, or just post a new topic over there
i'm sure they would love to debate b&m vs. transgo

Do a full exhaust with 1 5/8" primary headers, then 3" all the way back, 3.42 gears posi, and an open element air cleaner. Those will really wake the car up
Id skip the chip though, its not worth it.

Jason: Just wondering, you're doing all around LS1 brakes right? I know the rear's are simple to swap how about the front? Any custom fabbing needed? So we don't hijack this thread can you PM me? Thanks

Borla catback (replace the cat as well).
Headers might look cool but do the TBI heads really even flow enough to where they could take advantage of them? (IE my TBI 350 in my truck did not respond when I went to headers simply because of the crap head/intake design).
Hypertech = yuck. Waste of money.
Shift kit - best thing you can buy. NOTHING better than a quick shifting tranny. Hate retarded shifting.
No but seriously I would save your money for later on if you decide to put in a new motor or a 6 speed. I WISH I hadnt had spent so much money on my truck. Im needing a new transmission soon and currently gathering up parts for a 6 speed swap. Id be done with the conversion if I hadnt had spent money on: $350 Borla headers, $300 Borla catback, $800 bedcover, $450 electric fans, $1000+ stereo, $100 electronic shift kit, $120 hyperjunk, $200 MSD6A, coil and taylor wires, $200 454ss air dam and fog lights, $60 clear corners, $120 tint job... Im missing a few others.
Do the math. 3700+ bucks in my back pocket. Not only would I still have my truck and camaro, but I might also have that 1993 GT I was SO close to buying 2 years ago. Hmmm what else could I have done with 3700 bucks.

The beautiful thing about headers and exhaust is that if you decide to scrap the 305 in favor of a 350/383/400 later, they'll bolt right up (so long as you don't go LS1.)
I'll also strongly suggest subframe connectors as an early mod.....the cars should have had them from the factory. I have Alston's (got them through Lon at Top-Down Solutions) and absolutely love them. They connect the subframes directly and hug the floorpan so that you hardly lose any ground clearance.
Honestly the best thing to do is figure out what you want to do with the car (whether it be daily-driver, corner-carver, or straight-line-Mudstain-eater) and work toward that.
Corey I'm PMing you.
