Fan Question...

I have heard of people "grounding" their fan swtich so it runs all the time. Is this a good idea and if it is how would I go about doing it?? Thanx...

I did that on my formula since neither fan would come on and I was too lazy to find out what the problem was.

Basically I ran a ground wire from each of the relays to 2 switches in the car and and then ran the switchs to ground so I can turn on the fans individually.

I am running the primary fan on all the time and never need to turn the secondary fan on. Car runs at 160-170* with the 160 stat.

Two red switches are the fans and the blue is a secret.

I only have one fan so where do I run the ground wire from??? I know where the fan switch is, do I run it from there??? Having a switch is actually a better idea!!

You want to wire the switch to control the relay. On my 86, the relay was on the pass side next to the radiator, on my 88, one relay was in the same place as the 86 and the second relay was on the pass side fender.

I don't remember the color of the wire for ground, but it is one of the 2 smaller wires on the relay. Use a meter to find out which one is the hot wire with ignition on and wire the switch to the other one.

So I take the ground wire and go to the switch, and then from the switch to ground (a piece of metal) ???

There is a diagram on top of the relay, it will show you which terminal is ground. Without going outside to look I think it may be the E terminal, but check it first.

Running all the time is bad, you will burn out the motor much quicker.

yep. I spliced into the ground wire so when I do fix the problem I won't have to touch the relay or the switches.

How much quicker will the motor burn out?
Motor only costs $23 and you will know if it dies if you run it all the time.
