Post Is this a factory flaw?

My guages are constantly bouncing up and down while just normal driving. My RPM's by just accelerating will go up to 7,000, I know it's not really hitting 7,000, but my guage over shoots it. Is this a factory flaw, or do I just need to replace them?

My speedo has some play in it, but I think a new cable will fix that. It might be a smiple problem, or it might be something bigger. If it comes down to it, a used gauge cluster is pretty cheap, and there seem to be enough of em laying around out there.

Ever since my car was new it has had problems with a temp guage that does the same thing. It will bounce all over the place. The previous owner wanted it fixed but for some reason never got it done. From looking at the board behind the gauges it seems to be warped causing a poor connection on my car.

Also check the ground straps and wires between the firewall and the rear of the cylinder heads. I've seen these work loose after some hard launches, causing all kinds of mystery problems, from irratic gauges to injectors not firing.

do you have any aftermarket ignition parts? when I installed my MSD Super HEI ignition module the tach went absolutely nuts.... MSD is aware of this problem and they mention it in the instructions. There is a filter that you can buy that will fix the problem, my fix was to get an external tach. Its much more accurate and it definately doesn't jump around any more
