Question Exhaust question

In 2 weeks my 84' Z28 will be finish at the body shop, and my question is

Can you put a full double exhaust on a 3rd gen, will soon get a 350 ho with 350 hp and i just wanted to know if i can put a full double exhaust pipe from headers to the trunks with 2 cherry bomb. (If no, a 50-50 double, single with a 'Y' that will be as good as a full double.) Will also have Kenny Brown SFC installed...

Hoping to find the best exhaust configuration possible.

i have yet to see a 3rd gen. Camaro with true "double" exhaust.

if you have ever looked under your car(which i'm sure you have) there is very little room for a full double exhaust.

however, i have heard of 3rd gens. with double exhaust, never seen one though, but i'm sure these people have bottoming-out problems.

It is possible, and many people do run true duals dumped before the axle. It's quite loud, and I'd suggest using a different type of muffler than a cherry bomb.

To answer your question about dual exhaust over the axle and out the back...it's fully possible without any major modification.

Proof? I wish I had pictures, but I don't. My dad had it done to our IROC a year after he got it brand new. It followed the stock exhaust path over the axle. It was only 2.25" pipes, but it was the only mod he did to the car besides a thermostat and underdrive pullies. When I got my license a couple years back, it was still on the car. Ground clearance really wasn't that bad at all, but it would scrape occassionally.

Due to some problems with a shop that was doing some work for us, the dual exhaust had to be yanked off. Since then, we haven't been able to find a shop that could or would even attempt to do it again. The guy who originally did the work was quite talented I must say. This exhaust didn't even bang or anything.

Sorry this got long, but I'm just letting you know it is very possible, but it's not the most practical application.

But with cherry bomb not with flowmaster...

Btw, i dont really care about sound, the loudest, the coolest, i live in quebec, north quebec, 400miles north of montreal, in this province of canada, we are the only one who police tolerate everything, cause there is no emission law.....

Do not do cherry bombs... please....

Thats the most awful sound I have ever heard. EVER...... Plus what do you expect to gain with cherry bombs?

Lemme let you in on a little secret. Cherry bombs are what "rednecks" put on their cars/trucks... why would you want to convey that same message to other people?

My advice...

From the headers and Y-pipe, run a 4" pipe , replace the cat. converter with your muffler of choice with 4" inlet and outlet.I did a 2 chamber 40 series flowmaster. from there continue with a 4" pipe bent accordingly and make it turn downwards before the rear axle. It will be more than enough flow for big power, it will sound mean, it will be lightweight, you wont have axle clearance problems, especially if the car is lowered, and it will PROBABLY be cheaper than your typical 3" cat back system.Installed all to boot.

I used to want a 4" Mufflex system for my car but it's expensive at 400-600 bucks plus installation...it would have axle clearance problems, and shipping would cost money also. My newfound shorty setup will suffice. Goodluck!

Also...find a GOOD performance shop to do the work for you. Mandrel bends would be nice but are not needed really..

Hammer over at fl-thirdgen.org has true dual exhaust on a 305 firebird, made as much rwhp as us 350 TPI guys at the last dyno day - ofcourse we've all done extensive mods since And whooped him on torque.

Yes you can run dual exhaust on a 3rdgen. The only way to keep any ground clearance would be to route two pipes down the passenger side of the car. I think that lack of ground clearance is worth the awesome sound that dual exhaust gives you. Here is my setup, it is ceramic coated hedma Ellite Short headers into two 2 1/2" pipes into an X pipe and into 2 1/2" bullet mufflers. Bullet mufflers are a lot like a glass pack but sound way, way better. Here are some pics of the setup, I have hacked the tips off the exhaust now so it exits at the bullets, sounds way better.

Here is the inside of a bullet muffler

I have heard a setup like that before. Except it was 4" single into a Flowmaster 1 Chamber behind a modded 383. It sounded incredible. But, while I like single, dual is cool and obviously has better flow characteristics.

Please stay away from cherry bombs

Too redneck for me. If anything get some Bullit mufflers.

Hehe , it's not really a "cherry bomb", it's a Gloss Pack from canadian tire (30$ Can), (thought it was the same thing) my old 305 was straight single pipe, no cat, and with a gloss pack, it give an outstanding sound, while keeping silent on idle...
