Everyone in! 1/4 mile times and cheap parts

Just picked up a few parts for my daily driver.

edelbrock TES headers
edelbrock open element
blaster coil
3 inch y pipe
4 inch catco cat
3 inchflowmaster catback-not by choice it was cheap as hell, im going to change it depending on sound
chrome 5 spokes
new front clip-looks nice
new trans out of vette with converter

1/4 mile times on a 92 RS?
shaved off about 250 lbs already
im thinkin a mid 15?

Also for anyone who needs parts for DIRT CHEAP check this out. I have it in the FS section but none of us really check there. All third gen camaro, bird and formula parts

I know someone with all of your mods plus LCA's, TQ, and a good set of tires, and he only ran a 15.9 with his 305TBI auto.

Don't expect a mid 15. It would be nice. But its not gaurenteed.

If you have everything you listed installed, a recent tune-up, and have set the timing, then a mid-15 shouldn't be too hard for you.

Fruity - if your buddy had all that done, and only ran a 15.9, then something was wrong, or he was racing on a day with a DA in the billions.......

i agree, most stockers should run mid to high 15s with a good tune up and mild timing advance with premium gas.

Re: Everyone in! 1/4 mile times and cheap parts

I've never seen a stock TBI, even a 5speed break into the 15's. The cam only has .384" lift with 1.5 rockers, and only 178* duration @.050" on the intake. Id really think a 15.5 is almost a freakish time considering the size of the camshaft the TBI's got. A LT1 cam makes for HUGE gains after tuning in TBI cars. Peanut cammed Lb9's out run TBI 305's all day long at the track, and they aren't known for going much faster than 15.5's on a good day.

If I seem sceptical its because I am. Few people on thirdgen.org with TBI cars report better than mid 15's without a cam.

My friend ran a 14.7 with his 91 305TBI auto.
He had an LT1 cam, new timing set, Headers, 3" catback, Carb intake with TBI spacer/adaptor, 3.42 gears, some suspension work, open element air cleaner, and whatever TBI mods there are to do, and a prom with minor changes made by me. Prom changes were only EGR delete and raising the speed limiter

Yeah, I can see it with a cam change though. Its just that the stock cam is SOO tiny, its hard to see any improvements with bolt ons. The cam really is the bottleneck in a TBI setup for mild power.

My friend's '91 RS with 305TBI (still had working AC, t-tops, power windows/locks/hatch) went a 14.2 @ 97 with the stock cam and stock tune. He had some weight reduction (car weighed 3260 at the line), edelbrock performer heads, TBI free mods, bumped timing, 3.54 gears, slicks/skinnies, headers, !cat, flowmaster 1 chamber, dump before the axle.

Ask in the TBI section of 3rdgen.org if they remember njspeeder....that's him. I also have video of many of his low 14 sec runs.

He put an LT1 cam in it, but not until after he did the heads.....took the car off the road before making any passes with the cam.

By stock, I mean no mods. Not even free mods.

Re: Everyone in! 1/4 mile times and cheap parts

I just took my 88 Formula 305TPI to the track last night.
Onlyreal mods on the car are 3.73 gears, K&N filter, Flowmaster Muffler with the stock I-Pipe.

This it the best pass I made:
60'=2.021
330=6.198
1/8=9.680
MPH=71.78
1000'=12.702
1/4=15.239
MPH=90.98

3550# race weight.
