est. 1/4 mile times

My cousin has a 88 gta and has the follow thing done to it, air foil, flat top pistons, ZZ9 cam, edelbrock headers and Y pipe, guted cat, gale banks catback, 3:73 gears, allum. driveshaft, and other small things, but those are the main ones, what times would you expect to see out of it at the least. Does anyone have a similar set up?

Yeah thats what i was thinkin is he should be at least in the high 13's, but last time at the track I ran a 14.39 and his best is a 14.53, but his car has a few problems like the timing is out of wack, runs a lil too rich, also I forgot to list that he has that TPIS stage 4 or 5 chip, but were just kinda seein if anyone else has a simliar setup and what they run, thanks guys.

Well, just for sake of comparison....

My car with a good exhaust and a stall converter with a TPIS stage 3 PROM went 14.52 @ 92mph LETTING OFF THE GAS just past the 1/8th mile due to trans problems. If I would have stayed in it I would have gone in the 13's easily. That GTA should break mid to low 13's with those mods. Then again it has a cam with a power range of 2500-6500RPM. The stock LR TPI intake is restricting it but I still would think that it would get a good 13 second pass.

Does he have the runners and upper intake modded? I know that the stock ones choke those cars off early.

Nope no work done to the runners, or upper intake, the whole intake setup is stock. The motor does seem to lack air at times.

If he hasn't ported that plenum then the cam isn't doin him much (if any) good. Dude really needs to open up the intake, smooth it out, and port-match it while he's in there. The extra restriction could be costin him as much as half a second.

I agree that port matching and smoothing out the runners is a good thing, but I would save my money and not buy any aftermarket intake components until more drastic mods are implimented. I have a buddy that ripps off 13.5's at 2500 feet on a completly stock un-touched intake system, including stock throttle body, stock 305 injectors (even though he upgraded to a 350 engine) and all that. I personally do not see intake restrictions as a factor until 12's are called for. As far as the times your buddy's car should run I would have to agree with the already stated mid-high 13's. Enough to handily take out your what I assume is a stock LT-1.

I would go to the track and see what it runsand then get that aftermarket intake and see the improvement. Also, does he have any suspension mods or drag radials?

Yeah I'd have to say " bigger intake".

I got into the 11's with a bigger intake. ( granted nothing is stock.)

the tpi is a good way to kill your hp.

Leaning it out will only give it more knock and retard. What the problem may be is that the knock sensor may be hearing false knock such as an wxhaust leak. If the sensor is stock i'd recommend replacing it and see what happens.
