engine stalling

I have an 86 z38 with a 305 lg4 motor and a t5 manual transmission. The car died on me 3 years ago and instead of fixing it i decided to buy a new car a worry about it later. Well ive decided to try and get it running. here is my problem, the car starts and idles great nice and smooth but when i give it any gas the car seems to bog down and stall. I thought it might be a carbertor problem so i install a new holly street avenger carberator. car still does the same thing. I then reinstalled the old qjet carberator, replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and igintion coil. does the same thing again. This time i removed the qjet carb put the holly back in and then replaced the distrubuter with hei none computer controled unit still the same issues. The car starts fine, idles beautiful, but if i put it in first gear and try to give it some gas it just bogs down and dies. my only thought is there is something cloged up in the exhaust pipe. other than that i have now clue. I was hopeing anyone have any suggestions what i could check next

thanks
Fred

im thinking i might be something with the emmisions systems either the cat or the egr valve. its not a fuel issue, cause its a new filter in the carb and i changed the fuel pump and lines to the carb. Im gunna cut the cat off tommorrow and see if it runs better. but i dont really want to replace that if dont have too

Unbolt the exhaust and see if it still does it, converters melt down under sustained exposure to a really rich condition.
