Does any one know how to check a engine for the year,size and what it was in from factory .I have a 86 IROC and want to order heads and a cam .It's not the factory engine.

There is a code stamped on the front engine pad behind the alternator, in front of the passenger cylinder head. You can also go to mortec.com and check casting numbers so at least you can know engine size.
