Engine Being Pulled - Suggestions?

Well, hopefully in a week or so we'll be in a position where we can rent a hoist & stand and yank the 305. We don't have money for a new motor or a total rebuild, so what do you suggest as far as cleaning and cheap mods?

Definitely want to clean the absolute hell out of it. Inside and out. Polish up what we can.

I want to polish the heads (have a friend who knows how who'll do it for lunch)

Maybe an LT1 cam (I can get one cheap)

How much are new gaskets all around?

Might shell out for the tranny rebuild while it's out of the car.

How hard are rings and valve guides to check/replace?

Looking for some sweet chrome valve covers too

And while it's out... plug/wire/oil/filter change... duh. Routine stuff. And probably disassemble the QJet to make sure it's not filling with oil like last time (that was fubar)

The only good suggestion I can make is to mark all wires & hoses for the locations were they came from. Will make reinstall that much easier after you have a memory lapse and can't remenber where went what.
