Electrical problem...please help!
I recently installed new spark plugs and wires, and also a new coil ignition on my ’90 Camaro. After I was finished, the car would not start so I jumped it and it started right up. I noticed that before I did all this, it was hard to start. I am positive that all the plugs and wires are on good, and the ignition coil is on properly (even tested the old one and it wouldn’t start).
I have in the last three months installed the following new components: alternator, battery, starter.
Also, when I was installing a plug that was close to my starter, the ratchet touched it a couple of times and it sparked, but I really doubt that this could have shorted it out (could I be wrong?) I don’t know why I didn’t disconnect the battery cables-didn’t think I would have to.
There is a drain somewhere in the car-the battery is totally dead. The engine would try to turn over yesterday, but it wouldn’t. Today, I let it sit all day (alarm was on though) and it would not turn over at all. I turned the lights on, and they became dim very quickly.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated…
