electric water pump on the street?

looking at saving a few pounds and picking up some HP..... they look good too.

does anyone have some before or after temperature differences?
i hate to run warmer, but dont mind running cooler.

im also interested if you have "the good, the bad, and the ugly" feedback/recomendations on any electric pump.

small block BTW.

plenty of people running them on and off the street. the street cars tend to have their issues. personally when it came down to deciding i was much happier having an "uglier" waterpump and knowing i won't have to worry when i'm cruising.

i have seen alot of people who have claimed to have no problems....definately a 50/50 deal that i wasn't comfortable working with. the sure look nice though.

I was skeptical at first, but I like the CSI on my daily driven 97 WS6. Only problem I've had with it was a melted fuse holder in the tech line at Gainsville raceway that cost me a night of racing and $15 bucks. Other than that, it works flawlessly.

The only problems I have heard of, is durability over the long haul, and that the seals are only intended to last around 2000 hours. Also I know that because of the impeller design, they do not build as much pressure as a manual or normal water pump does. But the best bet if you want to save some hp, use a good aftermarket factory style water pump, and run an electric drive system, this allows the pump to build pressure in the block, and keep consistant cooling. Also the pump will last a long time.

^^^ the tpye of water pump set up you mention, is old school, how the very 1st designs were put out years ago. if i were do to do this set up, i think i would not do it at all. not removing any weight, so the the job is only half finsihed.

ive been researching, and there seems to be several categories. 19,22,35,37 and even 55GPM (gallons per minute) that mezeire (sp?) reccommends for heavy duty applications such as towing!

it would be way to complicated to find a flow rate on the manual pumps, due to pulley size, impeller variances and engine rpm.

ive got a tubular k member on my list 1st..... but the water pump comes in a close 2nd. im gonna give it a shot, i can always put my manual back on, if need be.

thanks for the advice..... my ears are still open if anyone has an opinion. thanks!

There are pros and cons like anything else.

Here are some pros:
Looks good,
flows good at low rpms,
very quick to replace if you already have 1,
frees up some hp

and some cons:
takes a little modification the first install,
some are pricey,
short expected life.

I have a CSI which was a tad cheaper than the stock LT1 pump. I had to modify the stock housing for it. I painted the housing gloss black and the pump looks great now. I took some time to make a custom switch bracket along with leds to tell me if it goes bad. Had to run some wires. I haven't yet, but I won't to wire a buzzer to let me know if it goes bad. I can't see the leds during the day. I highly recommend taking the time and wiring a warning of some kind. It takes no time for a car to overheat with no pump. I know

I do know that when this one goes, if I decide to get another CSI, I can have it on in about 5 minutes So far no problems and it has about 13k miles on it.
