Electric hatch motors suck

What a useless pos.
Ok, the hatch was working perfect. Now the **** will not let me lift up on it to open it. Instead it just sucks it back down RIGHT when it gets to it's peak height (3 seconds). Is there anyway to open it MANUALLY? Thanks... all my **** is in the back.

on a camaro, you can swing the license plate open (from the top) and use a key to open it. I gotta do that, because my accesory fuse keeps blowing...

I have trouble with it unlatching by itself tho, like when I go over a speed bump, I can hear it open and close again LOL!

if you pull up the second it reaches the top you should be able to open it. I had the same problem and it was because one of my hatch struts went bad. Replaced them both and it opened as good as new....made a cool space ship sort of noise too.

Well, even if I have someone hold up on it as it comes up (IE do what the shocks are supposed to do) it still sucks it back down...

I couldn't take messing with the hatch motor any more so I drill two holes and put two bolts though the two halfs and unpluged the motor, and it makes a nice regular latch now. Wish I would have done it the first time the motor acted up. Lit me know if you want more detailed instuctions.

That's exactly what I did to mine.

sounds like a plan for as soon as mine died....i wouldnt even mind repairing it but what drives me nuts is i can not let anyone close my trunk because even if you try to explain it no one on this planet seem to understand how a power trunk works they all try to push down on it and break the freaking motor....thats what drives me nuts.

I have a feeling that is what happened to mine. I just got it back from an upholstry shop. Everything that I had in the front and rear seats are gone... so I assume they are in the back, but I cant tell because I CANT get the hatch open... and I also have that black tarp thing (what the hell is that called?) covering the rear so I cant see.

Edit: Man... I can see them slamming my **** to the extreme when they were working on it.

Well think about it your driving someone back to their house and they have a bag of something in the trunk. It would be nice to be able to just pop the trunk and go hey grab your stuff (as i probably would not mind doing with a normal trunk) but due to the power trunk i have to stop put it in park get out walk around close the hatch for them and then get back in and drive away. Its just such a hassle.

How heavy are the Z28 spoilers? Maybe that helps wear out the shocks quicker?

Conclusion

Shocks are weak, spoiler is heavy, and the tarp (whatever its called) was attached. All rolled in together = electric motor gets confused.

The shocks do hold the hatch when fully open though (quite well in fact - no piece of wood needed).

Manually??! There's not a button or anything for it is there?! I've been using my key ever since I bought the car

I have a button to open it. Im not sure how it differs by model year but my 90 has 3 buttons in the center console the two outside ones for the window and the middle one for the hatch. Doubt you have it though but if you do and just couldnt find it please step away from the car right now and put the tools down before someone gets hurt. (mainly you)
