Dyno Tuning

So I got a base run of 367 RWHP @ 6300 RPM and 337 RWTQ @ 5400 RPM. My A/F ratio was reading in the low 10's high 9's through out the run... more so at the top end. The guys at the shop said if it wasn't for the MSD it wouldn't have even fired!

Now I have a new chip and its running in the hiugher 11's to low 13's at WOT... were it should roughly be.

What kind of HP and TQ improvements do you think I can expect. Is 400+ RWHP too much to ask for?

If they have a wide-band o2, try for 12.5:1 to 13.0:1 and see what afr gives you the best power. No reason not to hit 400 if the combo and tuning are correct.

Are you tuning it or just doing some dyno runs?

I'm doing some dyno runs and more A/F testing to get most power out of this thing. This is just until I can afford a DFI system.

The most recent A/F testing I did I was running as low as 11.5:1 and as high as 13:1 WOT. At cruising it was running in the low 15:1.

I think another tune should get it nailed... at least I hope. I haven't done another Dyno run since the first one. I kind of wanna save it for the last test.

How are you adjusting it? If you are changing the EPROM, why not talk to www.fasterproms.com and they can lend you their Diacom to take readings and change the chip for you without the dyno sessions which are expensive. The EPROM costs about $350 the first time you get them to burn it and you can use the road as your dyno.

I dont have the equipment to burn my own chips. Theres a guy out in Alberta thats working on the chip for me. He was refered to me by Ed Wright.

We've been trying to get this thing tuned for almost a year now. Just now we are getting very close. It needs some fine tweeking now and some smoothening on the graph... its looking pretty ugly.

I can't remember what it was that he would mail out to me...

The last one I did I just borrowed the wide band O2 from the local Dyno guy. He let me borrow it for an hour so I could log some A/F through a bunch of diferant tests.

If you want I can email you guys the charts to see. I havn't had the time to host them yet.

If you get the car running you will also have to have it set in the EPROM to run nitrous. If I ran nitrous right now my ECM will not know that it should be there and not give fuel to compensate and I will be buying a new engine.

Nick587: thnx! Its probably one of a couple fastest 3rd gens in my area. I just got it to pass emission testing today so now I can really get on logging and tuning more now.

To be honest... if you want to keep the car for a long time, mod the crap out of it! the cars aren't worth much to begin with so why not make it custom to you!. Besides, you already have the 350 core so why not?

aklim: I told Wester's Garage (they're the guys burning my chips) that it is a nitrous motor and I will be adding a 200 shot later. He's got that already into the chip. At least I hope he does. Lately we've just been trying to get it to stop surging and smoking. We're now finally in the final stages of the tune. I should have a final dyno run by the end of the summer, if not sooner.
