Just wanted to know were i could get a 1LE drive shaft from a 3 gen. thank for the help.

 

Check out E-bay they may have them $100/150 or new from
GMpartsdirect for $249. Or check the classified ads on the 3rd Gen Boards. Also for your info the GM p/n is 10085375 for 1LE & p/n 12564003 for a LS1 Aluminum Dr Shafts. Good Luck

 

Does the LS1 aluminum shaft fit right into a 3rd gen? Same length and u-joints? I thought I heard they weren't the right length.....

 

Everything is the same, its a 3" dia compared to 1LE 2 3/4 and it bolts right in. I have the 1LE one.

 

I have one of each, the 1LE shaft in my Iroc (came stock with it) and the LS1 shaft in my RS. Go with the newer LS1 shafts. They're bigger.

Bigger (3") LS1 is not always better (2 3/4) 1LE. Still less weight & mass with the 1LE. However get the one you like, still a vast improvement over the stock steel one.

 

I'll prolly grab an LS1 shaft, I know where a couple are layin around. Thanks for the info.

Yeah but why? I can go to a junkyard and pick up an LS1 shaft for $125, or if I keep an eye out get one for right at $100 off ebay. That extra 1/2" isn't worth $200 to me.

 

Not all of us can find those just laying around. & The Lingenfelter is stronger but if the one out of a junk yard is available & good enough for you go for it.

 

A Lingenfelter shaft went for $150 on ebay last week, there's another one on ebay now.

Brand new Alum Dr Shafts are available from gmpartsdirect or similar vendors for about $249 or less.

 

I think thats what we bought mine for off of ebay.

 

What else besides weight makes an aluminum driveshaft better then a steel one? What is the weight difference anyway?

 

The weight difference is about 4#'s. Also the reason its better is, the balance eliminates high speed viberation vs the steel one.
However; there is no improvement unless you want a weight reduction in the driveline and don't drive over 80 MPH.
