Do I really need a thermac?
Ok fellas. I replaced my stock air cleaner with a Edelbrock 14 inch open type. I hooked up the IAT and that works fine. What about the vacum line for the thermac? All i did was plug the vacum line. The idle seemed a bit lower with it plugged. Will i do any damage without it?

Keep your old air cleaner assembly. In some areas the Thermac system is needed to pass a visual emissions inspection.
Otherwise, No, it isn't strictly speaking necessary.
When I converted my TBI car to an open element I just zip-tied the IAT sensor to a location that was right next to the air filter element. Good enough to read reasonably accurately (verified through Diacom scans of the ECM) and no negative effects that I could tell.

removing your stock Thermac air cleaner will pretty much affect your cold driveability, since there will be no more hot air piped in to the air cleaner to aid in the cold start to normal operating temp(helps atomize the fuel better so the car is easier to drive when cold, not so rich). Also your IAT sensor won't accurately read the inlet air temp but won't set a code if its just lying there or tie wrapped to something. Another thing is if you live in a state with strict emissions testing this will definitely fail the visual check, and also if there is a tube or hose that runs from the EVAP canister or PCV system you've affected its ability to get rid of hydrocarbons from the fuel tank and crankcase.
