Some moron cut across lanes in a parking lot tonite and we met. Dodge Ram vs my GTA. Jerk. Thank god I was ok, not at fault, know the cop, he got cited, and led off in handcuffs on some outstanding warrant. Jerk. My car took most of the hit. Nose piece and hood. Hood is bent back. Undoubtedly the hood latch, but whatever.
Here's the question. My car is all stock except the color. Mint condition 88 GTA. Do I let them replace the GTA hood with stock GTA, or go 4inch fiberglass cowl induction? I really like the cowl induction look, but....
Opinions! Just happened 2 hours ago, so I have time before it goes to the body shop....

Do you have to go that high? I sat in a car like that and found it obstructed visiblity a bit. I have to use a ASCD Ram Air Hood because I want it to have a bump in the front to clear the Intakes but you don't have to go that way.

I would say go with a 2" Harwood. I had a 2" Harwood on a '90 IROC and was very impressed with the quality. I also had an Unlimited Products 4" on an '83 Z28 (needed the clearance for the Victor Junior, spacer, Holley, big air cleaner combo), well it had no quality at all and I just wouldn't recmmend going that big unlesss you absolutely have to.

Yea four inch is ALOT of scoop! the ram air hood would be my choice
two inch harwoods are really nice too...I have a three inch harwood..but only because that exactly what makes a big block fit in a third gen.

OK, I think the 3" Harwood will be it.

The insurance adjuster for the other guy come tomorrow night. It will be interesting what he says. My bet is $1000-1200. We'll see...

Keep it stock...
I've got an '89 GTA and would not put a cowl hood on it. The factory hood looks best, imo, unless this is a serious street/strip car and you need the clearance. Being that you have an all stock car, a cowl hood would look out of place on your GTA, and in the future, if you have to sell the vehicle for whatever reason, that cowl hood will greatly limit the pool of available buyers for your car. You might get a teen buyer, but older buyers will be turned off, not to mention the substantial drop in value of the car with a non-stock hood.
Just another angle to consider.

You guys are all killing me. Maybe I will keep it stock, just due to the horror stories getting fiberglass to look decent. I am not really worried about resale at this point. I just am not investing a ton of labor to get it right. There are no manufacturers that do a decent job? The SLP ram air WS6 and Camaro SS hoods look good......
