car had no gas to suck and sucked all the old crud at the bottom of the tank? Id check the fuel filter, if you not sure when you replaced it just go ahead and do it. Cheap, easy first step.

Re: cranks but does not fire

what model is it? carb or fuel injected? if its fuel injected check that you have fuel pressure.. you could of burnt your fuel pump out. when fuel is in the tank it is what keeps the pump cool. that would be my first step. second i would clean the fuel injecters if its a fuel injected car.

good luck

you should never let your fuel get that low it starves your fuel pump and ends up bunrning it up.

Re: cranks but does not fire

did you prime the fuel pump when you first filled it up again by cycling the ignition on and off about 10-15 times? remember under normal conditions there's always fuel in your line so the supply is instant when you turn the key, but after you ran out your lines are now empty and need to be filled up again. also like stated before check you fuel filter as it could also be clogged. and a way to see if your fuel pump is still in operation is to take off your gas cap and place your ear near the filler neck while someone turns the ignition on. if you hear a buzzing noise then the pump is still working. also you could have clogged the mesh filter on the pump as well if everything else is operational up to this point. but yea letting your tank get below 1/4-1/8 especially during the summer heat is a bad idea as already stated becuase the fuel itself acts as a coolant to the pump. do what i've said in order, it's never a good idea to be just a parts uzi and assume that the pump is bad without verifying that it is.

Re: cranks but does not fire

if the car ran before, its safe to say compression is good,

you got air, fuel and spark are next,
can you hear the pump when you roll the key forward?, should run for like 2 seconds
fuel pressure gauge is best bet,
if you got fuel pressure and spark, prime the system, disable the pump and crank,
if fuel pressure doesn't drop your injectors aren't firing

I am also having the same prob. My car has been sitting awhile about a month. I started it just to let it run. Well I forgot to look at the gas gage and ran out of fuel. Now the car only turn's over. I have checked to see if the fuel pump is kicking off and on by listening for it at the gas cap.
NOT A PEEP. So I am going to replace the pump with a Walbro I think. Anyone have a Walbro fuel pump? If so how would you rate it?
Thanks

No one mentioned FUSE's. Might try them before changeing the pump out!
