Arrow Considering 3rd gen Formula - Need help

I've been considering getting a late 3rd gen. Formula. 1) I think they look awesome, 2) I have a 19 year old daughter that wants something cool to drive. I currently have a 97 Formula and work on everything myself. Am I going to spend every weekend working on this thing, or are they fairly reliable. I'd probably be looking at a 91 or 92 w/305 TPI and an automatic. Any input is appreciated.

I'm pretty sure all formula's with an automatic came with a 350. As far as reliability my fiances TBI 305 has 155,000 miles on it and runs great. It does need suspension work done but as far as driveline it's doing great.

There is something about a Formula...

Get a solid car with unmolested wiring and you should be fine.

I have a 91 Formula that I'm thinking about selling. I live in the Detroit area. If you want, I can send you some pics and a rundown on the parts. Drop me a line if you are interested.

Formula 350's came with only A4, 305's could be A4 or M5. I'm very happy with my 350.

A 350 TPI for a 19 year old? Jeez, I dunno if that's such a good idea. I like the idea of a 305 TPI/Auto as was suggested. A 305 TBI engine I would probably avoid, however. Not really impressed with them for power, mileage or reliability.

It's going to be WAY better to buy a dead-stock unmodified original in good condition for $5000 than a hacked-up or modified one for $3000.

Thanks for the feedback. I am seeing mostly 305 TPIs. This would probably be best (the age 19 thing). Hopefully the 305 will teach my daughter what torque means as opposed to just horsepower.

Ha, I'm only 18 and I got a 350 a little after my 17th birthday. Boy did I learn about torque quick...

What were my parents thinking???

If you are looking for a 350 Formula a friend of mine has a great car for sale. This car is almost like new. If you get it you my end up giving her your 97 and keeping it for yourself. That is how nice this car is. You can go to the Michigan board and see the post selling my 3rd gen by RCR. I know this car and the owner and can tell you I would buy it in a heart beat if I didn't already own two fbodys. The best part is he only wants $5,500.00. You don't want to miss this deal. If you can't find it email me and I will have him contact you. but it should not be a problem.

Ive never had the car leave me stranded. The biggest problem i ever had was a relay was going bad and would cause problems turning the fuel pump on. But the car never left me anywere. Just as long as you keep it up it will be fine. The tbi has less stuff to go wrong than the tpi. Eather would be great for a 19 year old.

I also had a plastic part that hooked up the clutch brake. But who needs a clutch to shift I still got her home.
