Comparison and Opinion Time...
Which do you guys think is better performance wise. 86 Z-28 with 305 TPI or newer 4th gen (1998 and up) with the 3.8L V-6? Which would be quicker 1/4 mile? What about apearance wise? When you compare them performance wise, compare them with auto transmissions and 2.73 rears. Just needed some opinions. Thanks!
I think the 1/4 would be a close race. I think the 305 would have the advantage though (gobs of torque compliments of TPI). As far as looks, man come on. 3rd gens look better than any 4th!

Check out this Trans Am. Beautiful. I could link you to others, I'm just lazy. I'll post pics of the Z I'm about to pick up. It's beautifulhttp://www.ls1.com/forums/featured/W...20T-A%2002.jpg
My bone stock 305TPi Auto with 3.23 gears runs 15.7 @ 87mph.
Off the line, I can take a 96+ V6 but after a few seconds the V6 will catch up and keep going.
Also, the 4th gen V6 cars never came with a 2.73 geared rear. 3.23 or 3.42 were the ratios for the V6 cars.
82 & 83 were the only years with 3.08 gears, every year after was 3.23 or 3.42.

I ran 15.5 with my bone stock 305 TPI, I know a kid with a bone stock V6 maro and he ran 15.2. I guess its about driving...my only thing would be that a 305 car has all the provisions already on it for a V8, whereas with the V6 car if you wanted to swap a V8 in you'd have alot more work to do.
It's kinda sad, our 305s can barely keep up with cars that can't even power brake.

Don't know, some V6 guys can, some can't....don't know why that is...I can't imagine their screwing it up. One guy on another forum just got a Powerdyne SC put on, and he was so happy doing his first burnout because the stock V6 wouldn't do it.
I don't know. I had a 91 RS that had the 3.1 with a 5 speed and I could sit there and literally have smoke rolling off my tires. Must have been something wrong with that car 'cause I could beat 5.0's with that car. Wish I still had it.
