Like about everyone else here, my tranny finally did the inevitable...it wenta clunka when tranny shifts at speed with a load (four people in car). Otherwise just fine. I gather its another tranny mount gone belly up.

Soooooo.....I crawl under the pig and see .............. nothing wrong. The Tranny Mounts look fine. No dangling bolts or ripped rubber. Is it typical that the Mounts may look fine, but in reality are broken (i.e. I pull the babies and they fall out, etc.)? Ergo, replace away newbie boy ?

Inspect first, replace if necessary. Put a floor jack under the tailshaft and pump it up some (a couple of inches). The rubber doesn't always rip in half- sometimes it just unbonds from the bottom metal plate and you won't see it until you push up on it- then it'll come apart like a sandwich, but look totally normal with the weight of the tranny on it.
