Cheap Performance Mods

I was wondering if you know of any cheap performance mods for my 305CI camaro. Just looking for more power.

There are MANY posts on this. Do a history search on 85_305's camaro. ANYTHING for a gen I SBC is gonna be cheap. But if you do one thing to your motor, your gonna wanna do the supporting mods.. it's an adiction. Trust me.
Headers, hi-flow cats, 3" mandrel bent exhaust, edelbrock 600 carb, performer RPM airgap intake, MSD distributor and wires, vortec or L98 aluminum heads, electric hi-flow fan setup, electric waterpump, shift kit for auto's, cam etc. Your 305 would be moving with this stuff

Need more info, from your name Im assuming its a 91. Rs or z28? I myself used to have a 91 RS with the 305 Lo3 TBI motor in it. Although it is pretty much a boat anchor you can help it out a little. For starters, ditch the snorkel and add an open air element. Just search for open air element and you'll find all the info you need. It's relatively inexpensive to do as well. Getting into the more expensive things you can do include a decent cat back and some headers. Also, not sure about your gearing but if its stock its more than likely 2.73 open carrier. I noticed a HUGE difference when I added posi and 3.42.

lose the zero and get with the hero.
drop your 305 and put a 350 in. thats cheap. they are a dime a dozen.
unless you are turboing and charging your car. in which case use the 305 as a starting platform to work out and mock up your turbo kit.

Dont ditch the dual snorkel. Those are rare and flow pretty decently. But gears can deffinently help. Hell, I run 273 locker in my Fox, and she'll still rape 6.0 Goats. THough, my buddy with 355's rapes me too (never took it on the highway though), although he does have a bit more work done

more important is your goal and budget first hand. even all the above mentioned, exhaust and bolt ons your not going to race a newer generation camaro and win which is something to come to a realization.

you have a great base with alot of options, it's up to you what direction you take.

This is true. To an extent. Play your cards right, you can hang with lt1's without boost. It's gonna take some work to touch LS1's. But you can make that 305 plenty of fun

If your stuck on making a "5.0" fast, find yourself a clean Fox Body

when the first tpi iroc came out in 85" the two things they did was put next size up cam and 3-42's stock and those two things made 215hp
84 carb 305 had 185hp
85 tpi 305 had 215hp
then in 86 the tpi dropped back dowm to 190hp and pretty much stayed around there
you can also use gta b-pipe and put a highflow cat to open up the exhaust with a flowmaster super 40 or 80 to make it sound very nice(the cops hate my car but it still passes inspection-until they pass the new noise ban that they want to put into place)

Dunno what cards you are talking about but its going to take a VERY stacked deck for his 305 (I'm still assuming its a Lo3 since we haven't gotten any more information) to hang with a decently running stock/bolt o n Lt1. Stock for stock the Lt1 is 2 seconds faster than that Rs. Not saying it isnt possible, but it wont be cheap. And as previously mentioned, if its the dual snorkel set-up, keep it, if not ditch it. Those dual snorkels didn't come stock on the RS's but thats not to say someone didn't put one on.

I'll just revert to the old saying: Good, Fast, Cheap.......Pick 2.

Oh **** nevermind.. I'm talking the LG4. The lo3's take more work. And I dont remember which cars and motors the dual snorkels came on.. but I know they are getting rare and i know the flow pretty decent

Do you mean cheap, or easy mods? Your basic bolt-on mods are pretty easy to install, but unless you are just going to add an air-foil, they will definitely start to tally up in cost.

I remember reading about your old third gen a ways back. Definitely impressive for what you put into it. Lets face it though, not everyone can pull off a budget build. I can't at least.

heh ya man.. didn't think ya remembered or even knew that was me. But ya I just shopped around, looked at my possibilities, and bought wisely (hell.. I'm doing that right now for my 5.0.. got a few mods coming up after taxes come back).
But that old 305 deffinently ripped for what it was. Plus it was sexy as hell with that dark red, black interior, and T-TOPS!!

The old fox bodies are definitely a good platform to work with if you want to build a budget, fast car.
