Cat Price: How possible?
Catalytic Converters Price: How possible? Problems!
Turns out 1 of my cats is broken inside and has a MAJOR rattling problem (among no torque, LOUD exhaust, and off and on loss of power.
I was quoted, if Canadian Tire ordered them (apparently reconditioned) at costing $450cdn (Don't know brand) each from my very trusted buddies at Canadian Tire.. They could not order any now and suggested I go to LORDCO.
I went to LORDCO (parts place) and they, with my 30% Camarosource.ca discount, got them for $106cdn EACH?? for 2, that is a savings of $688..
I don't see how this is possible! Apparently these are "Universal-fitl" from "Walker" brand..
http://www.walkerexhaust.com/catconv.htm
The very bottom is the EXACT one.
Are these crappy? How can they be be SO incredibly cheaper than the others?? There are no branding on the box (plain cardboard box with a Catalytic shaped logo that says "Catalytic Converter" in the middle. There is nothing anywhere (including the warrenty card which only says "Catalytic Converter" as being the brand (??). The only way I know these are a "Walker" brand is because they told me that at LORDCO.
Need opinions.. Thanks.
UPDATE: According to the model number "15032" on the box, this is an UNIVERSAL STANDARD converter... Is this worth it? or should I take it back? Apparently it shows on the net as only being worth $69us.

the expensive ones were most likely a "direct fit", and the ones you got are universal, install is the only real difference, the old ones get cut out, the new ones welded or clamped into place, the direct fit ones would bolt right into place, after install, no real difference

check the price on universal fit high flow cats, they may be a bit more but you may be happier with those

call PI or whatever speed shop and get hi-flow cats
usually they are not much more expensive than regular universal fit
the expensive canadian tire cats were probably direct fit and have a fitting flange that doesn't require welding
but i don't think you got ripped off at $109 a piece for what you bought... that's a decent price for an off the street customer
UPDATE: All is fine now.
Turned out all the problems were just because of the cat that was broken inside. They changed them for the Walker ones and all seems fine. Didn't get to really check out performance or anything seeing how we just got hit by a snow storm. :-)
